Fitness Friday: Slamball
Okay, y’all. Today you get to see a side of me you might not have experienced before. That side of me that likes to get out serious frustrations and also get a good workout in the process.
A couple of weeks ago I was working out with our Friday Fitness guru, Laura Coleman, and bemoaning the fact that I hadn’t hooked up my boxing connection since moving. I love a good workout, but nothing compares to hitting something, HARD, to get out the pent-up frustrations. Laura doesn’t put up with whining much, so she just handed me a heavy ball and told me to lift it over my head and then smash it on the ground as hard as I could. Thus was my introduction to the slamball (or ‘smashball’ as I’ve also heard it called).
I was immediately hooked, and this has become a key component of my exercise routine. Mostly it’s for mental health, but you work up quite a sweat in the process. Check it out:

Laura Coleman rocked my world a few years back when she helped me get to the root of all the knee and lower-back issues I’d had since my teens. In just a couple of sessions, Laura put me on a simple program of rehab exercises (unlike any I’d ever seen before) that brought my body back into alignment and actually fixed the problem that no physiotherapist, massage therapist, or chiropractor had ever been able to solve. I was hooked! We’ve been terrific friends and shared many clients since, and I’m delighted that she has offered to share her wisdom with all of you via this Fitness Friday video series. Laura lives in Portland, OR with her two gorgeous daughters. She works her magic at Club Sport and with clients all over the continent via the magic of technology (aka Skype). Check out her blog and website here.
